The EU Data Protection Directive was considered outdated and replacement by GDPR.

PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is data or metadata which provides the potential to identify an individual. If that individual is an EU citizen, then the GDPR Legislation will apply to any organisation, in any country in the world, which processes or controls the PII data.
